The hermmes Ambassador training

The aim of the HERMMES ambassador training is to equip professionals with skills, knowledge, and experience to provide their own direct support to teachers and parents in setting up and implementing their own approach to holistic media education.

The training consists of in-person and online courses and takes the participant on a 15-month learning journey to become the HERMMES ambassadors in their community.

What to expect?

After completing the HERMMES ambassador training, participants will be able to:

Teach in teacher training and continuous professional development courses for kindergarten and school teachers
Advise parents looking for solutions when it comes to parenting in the digital age

Adapt curricula for educational settings in line with national requirements

Guide schools and kindergartens towards getting the HERMMES label for their institutions

Advocate for the HERMMES approach with government bodies and associated decision-makers

Learner profile

A professional with academic training in educational, pedagogical, therapeutic, social, or technical fields with work experience in teaching, advocacy work or administration.

Julia Kernbach is a lecturer and researcher at Siegen University, Germany, with a diploma in photography and a PhD in media education. Her research and teaching interests include the qualification of (art) teachers for digital skills education and analogue and digital media production projects.

Mark West is a specialist on the future of education at the UNESCO’s Education Sector, where he explores how technology can improve or disturb the quality, equity, and accessibility of learning. He is the author of the UNESCO report “The Ed-Tech Tragedy?”.

Paula Bleckmann

Paula Bleckmann

Paula Bleckmann is a professor of media education at the Alanus University, Germany. Her research and teaching interests include digital resilience, parent counselling and cooperation, and unplugged methods for teaching digital skills. She is a founding member of Global Alliance for Inspiring Non-Tech Infant Nurturing and Growth.

Robert Neuman

Robert Neumann is a professor of media and computer science education at the Freie Hochschule Stuttgart, Germany. His research and teaching experience include unplugged approaches to understand artificial intelligence (and more specifically large language models).

Márti Domokos

Márti Domokos is the coordinator of the HERMMES project. She is project coordinator at the European Council for Steiner Waldorf Education and a board member of the European Network of Steiner Waldorf Parents. Her expertise is in digital media curriculum development, parent-teacher cooperation and new technologies.

Jesper Balslev is a senior associate lecturer at the Business Academy Copenhagen with a PhD in media education. His research experience includes digital disconnection-studies, IT and sustainability, digital sovereignty and analogisation, and prefigurative politics as a method to develop new approaches to technology.

🇦🇹 European Parents’ Association

Arja Krauchenberg is project and advocacy coordinator at the European Parents’ Association. She advocates for a holistic approach to education involving all people concerned with the upbringing of children. Her expertise is in multilingual education, media and digital literacy, and advocacy.

Kath Bransby

🇬🇧 Sheffield Hallam University

Kath Bransby is a senior lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, and the education coordinator at Waldorf UK. Her expertise is in curriculum innovation, early literacy and neurodiversity, change management and leadership.

Ulrike Sievers

Ulrike Sievers is a teacher at a Waldorf school in Hamburg, Germany. She is also a teacher educator and runs the online professional learning platform elewa, hosting the HERMMES learning journey. Her expertise is in language teaching, teaching methods in secondary education, and integrating analogue and digital media in holistic and creative ways.

Clara Aerts

Clara Aerts is an early childhood specialist and has contributed to the development of the HERMMES approach on behalf of the International Association of Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood Education. Her expertise is creating environment for healthy early childhood development in the digital age, public lecturing and teaching in adult education using empowering learning processes.

Ellen Zeiss

🇩🇪 Montessori Europe

Ellen Zeiss is a Montessori educator and international trainer, a media maturity coach, and a World Peace Game facilitator. Her expertise is in child development and teacher education, and the intersection of freedom and responsibility in educational practice.

Dora Šimunović

🇭🇷 ECSWE

Dora Šimunović is the advocacy coordinator at the European Council for Steiner Waldorf Education and the co-coordinator of the HERMMES project. Her expertise is in advocating for healthy digital media education with governing bodies and in policy-driven environments in Europe and internationally.

Martin Kondrup

🇩🇰 Steiner Skolen i Vejle

Martin Kondrup is the principal of Steiner Skolen i Vejle and a teacher of natural sciences. He develops IT literacy frameworks and contributes to the Danish national media education network. His expertise is in building bridges between physical phenomena and their digital manifestations.

Johana Passerin

Johana Passerin

🇨🇿 Czech Forest Kindergarten Association

Johana Passerin, with a masters degree in special needs education, is the co-founder of the Czech Association of Forest Kindergartens and a lecturer in early childhood education. Her expertise is in coping strategies for young children related problematic digital media experiences.
